Getting massages is one of my all-time favorite things to do. It’s the ultimate relaxation experience and something I view almost as vital for the health benefits rather than a silly luxury–for me, it’s essential to get a great massage at least once a month so that my body feels more relaxed.
That’s why I’m stoked about the freaking smoking membership deal Hand and Stone Massage offers–an hour-long massage for less than $50 a month, with a myriad of discounts in addition to that. I can’t think of anywhere else you could find such a great deal by such professional massage therapists, and there are five locations in the Valley.
In addition to massage, Hand and Stone also offers facials and waxing, as well as aromatherapy. I’ve had both Swedish and hot stone massages there, and I’ve never left unsatisfied. (Request a massage from Jennifer Lykken if you go to the north Scottsdale location–she’s amazing!)
For those who have never received a hot stone massage, it’s a very interesting experience. The therapist rolls the hot stones around on your back, and the massage is just as much about feeling the warming sensations as it is the neat differences in pressure.
I wouldn’t choose it over a regular Swedish massage, though. With the hot stones, the therapist is constantly moving back and forth from the client’s table to the spot where the stones are, so you don’t experience as much constant touch as you do with the Swedish. And, for me, feeling someone’s hands is just as good, if not better than, having stones rolled on me. That said, I think the hot stone massage is worth trying at least once because it may become your new favorite kind.
First-time massages at Hand and Stone are extremely inexpensive, at only $39.95 for your first hour-long regular massage or $59.95 for the first hot stone massage. For more info, log on to www.handandstone.com.
